About the Conference

India faces an estimated shortfall of 29 million skilled workers, but existing labour market indices in the country often exclude blue- and grey-collar workers, despite this being the sector poised to generate the majority of employment opportunities. Our project, the Index for the Grey & Blue Collar Workers in India, aims to address this gap by mapping the demand and supply of these jobs across the country, tracking who’s hiring, where, and what skills are in demand by building the India Workforce Index. 

The Index also brings together data on minimum, actual, and living wages to empower workers, guide training institutions, and inform data-driven policymaking. WageIndicator is kicking off the project in collaboration with IIM Ahmedabad, FLAME University, with the support of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF). 

Join us for the launch on 27–28 November 2025 at FLAME University, Pune, India, where we aim to co-create the India Workforce Index.
