Other arts teachers

Other arts teachers teach students in the practice, theory and performance of dance, drama, visual and other arts (excluding music) outside the mainstream primary, secondary and higher education systems, but may provide private or small group tuition as an extra curricular activity in association with mainstream educational institutions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assessing the students’ level of ability and determining learning needs
  • Planning, preparing and delivering programs of study, lessons and workshops for individual students and groups
  • Preparing and presenting material on the theory of the subject area being studied
  • Instructing and demonstrating practical aspects of drama, dance, visual or other arts
  • Assigning exercises and work relevant to students’ level of ability, interests and talents
  • Assessing students and offering advice, criticism and encouragement
  • Revising curricula, course content, course materials and methods of instruction
  • Preparing students for examinations, performance and assessments
  • Arranging visits and tours to exhibitions and performances
  • Organising and assisting in performances or exhibitions of students' work
