Inside the Capital's hotels
A recent survey by Incomes Data Services (IDS) results shows that basic pay rates in London for many hotel staff range from £5.18 per hour for a waiter to £6 an hour for a receptionist. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) found that hotel porters in London earn on average £8.15 an hour, including commission but, excluding overtime.
The minimum wage has a big impact on the hotel sector with many
employees outside London starting at or near the National Minimum Wage
of £4.85 per hour. Waiting staff, room attendants and bar tenders are
common jobs affected by increases in the minimum wage.

Hours and holidays
According to the ONS, London hotel and restaurant staff work an
average basic week of just over 40 hours. IDS research shows that
the majority of hotels give 20 days holiday a year with very few
employers increasing holiday entitlement with length of service.
